Residence Registration Procedure in Bulgaria
This procedure applies to non-EU students who:
- hold a valid residence permit issued by another EU Member State;
- will participate in an Erasmus+ mobility programme in Bulgaria;
- have a residence permit valid for the entire mobility period.
1. Electronic submission
The student must submit an application for residence in Bulgaria using the official application form under Annex No. 3.

The completed application and all supporting documents must be sent electronically to the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior’s Migration Directorate at:
The following documents are required:
- A document confirming that the student is participating in Erasmus+ mobility programme involving Sofia University.
- A document confirming admission as a student at Sofia University and stating the mobility period.
- Proof of payment of a tuition fee, only if such a fee is required.
- Proof of accommodation in Bulgaria.
- A copy of the valid residence permit issued by another EU Member State. It must cover the entire mobility period.
- A copy of the valid passport, including:
- the photograph and personal-data pages;
- the visa page, if applicable;
- the Bulgarian entry stamp.
- Valid health insurance covering the stay in Bulgaria.
- Proof of sufficient financial means for the entire mobility period.
- A criminal-record certificate issued by the country of citizenship or usual residence.
Documents issued abroad must be translated into Bulgarian and legalised.

2. In-person registration after arrival
Within 14 days after entering Bulgaria, the student must visit the Bulgarian Migration Directorate in person and present:
- the original passport;
- a copy of the passport
- valid residence permit issued by another EU Member State;
- proof of accommodation in Bulgaria.
The accommodation document may be:
- a dormitory accommodation document;
- a rental agreement;
- another document confirming the right to use the accommodation.
When private accommodation is used, additional documents or a notarised declaration from the property owner may be required.
