Tickets and Cards

Public Transport Tickets

You can use Google Maps to navigate public transportation in Sofia easily and in real time.

Public transport in Sofia includes the metro, trams, trolleybuses, and buses.

Tickets can be purchased directly using:

A standard debit or credit card
Apple Pay
Google Pay

Simply tap your card/device on the blue validation terminals inside buses, trams, and trolleybuses, or at the entrance gates of each metro station.

The price of a single ticket is 0.80 EUR.
If you make 3 or more trips in one day, the system automatically caps your daily fare at 2 EUR, allowing unlimited travel for the rest of the day.

Student Transportation Card

As an Erasmus student, you are eligible for a discounted student transportation card, valid for all public transport lines in Sofia.

After the Welcome Meeting, you will receive an official document from Sofia University, which is required to issue your student transportation card.
You can register and apply online, and then collect your card from the transportation office you select.

The cards are issued by the Urban Mobility Centre, which has offices located throughout the city.

Taxis

If you prefer to use a taxi:

Use official and reliable apps such as:
- TaxiMe (Android / iOS)
- Yellow Taxi (Android / iOS)

⚠️ Avoid taking taxis waiting directly in front of the airport terminal exits, as some may overcharge – use the apps.

❌ Bolt and Uber are currently not available in Sofia.

Location

The main building of the university (the Rectorate) is located in the city centre at 15 Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd. Some of the faculties, most of the university administration and the central university library are in the Rectorate building, while other faculties are situated in different campuses throughout the city.
