Dear Erasmus Student,

Thank you for choosing Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski for your Erasmus mobility. We will be very happy to welcome you. You are just one-step away from your Erasmus adventure!

Please be aware that in order to apply for an Erasmus mobility at Sofia University, you have to be nominated by your Home University. That is why we recommend you to contact the responsible persons at the International Relations/Erasmus Office and to check with them the details regarding your participation in the Erasmus+ Programme.

Please read very carefully the following information about the application procedure at Sofia University for Erasmus students!


Application documents:

1. Application Form (AF) (download here)

The Application form should be duly filled in electronically (not handwritten), signed by you and signed and stamped by your Home University and sent to the respective Erasmus coordinator at Sofia University.

2. Learning Agreement for Studies (LA) (download here)

The Learning Agreement should be duly filled in electronically (not handwritten), signed by you and also signed and stamped by the responsible coordinator at your Home University. Please send it to the respective Erasmus coordinator at Sofia University. Please be aware that your University may have developed its own form of Learning Agreement. In this case, please send us only one LA (either the one form of your university or the one uploaded above).

3. Language Certificate

Sofia University offers a wide range of BA and MA courses in English for incoming Erasmus students (details below). We expect from the incoming students to have language skills equivalent to level B1 of CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). To prove your proficiency we ask you to select one of the options below:

• to send a language certificate for English B1 or Bulgarian B1 (at least). The certificate should be issued in English (or Bulgarian) language;

• to send this Language Proficiency Form filled in by a lecturer in English (or Bulgarian), stipulating your language proficiency in English (or Bulgarian), signed and stamped;

• OLS test results are also accepted.

The Language Certificate is not required only if:

• your BA or MA Programme is taught completely in English language
• you study English philology
• English is your native language
• you study Bulgarian philology at your University
• Bulgarian is your native language

NB: Application form and LA that do not meet the following requirements will not be accepted: 

• electronically filled in (not handwritten)
• all pages of each document in a single PDF file
• the name of the file has to consist of your name and type of document (ex. Application form – John Smith; LA – John Smith)

The Application form, LA and Language Certificate have to be scanned and sent by email to the relevant Erasmus coordinator at Sofia University in a single e-mail. Please avoid sending documents one by one because your application will not be accepted and the documents could be lost.

15 November 2019 for the summer semester



As an Erasmus student you have the opportunity to be accommodated in the student dormitory campus. A place is guaranteed for all Erasmus students for the entire period of their stay (if they have registered for it within the deadline). Please note that single rooms are not available. For more information, please see here.

If you wish to be accommodated in the student dormitory campus, please register here until 15 June 2019 for winter semester/full academic year and until 15 November 2019 the summer semester.

Only students who are officially nominated for Erasmus mobility for studies at Sofia University by their Home University are allowed to register for accommodation. Any other applications are not eligible. Erasmus students cannot register for accommodation for a period longer than their period of study at Sofia University.


Faculties and Erasmus+ Coordinators

Faculty Erasmus Coordinators at Sofia University are responsible for the academic part of your Erasmus mobility. See list of Faculty Erasmus Coordinators here. For any questions regarding the courses and ECTS, please contact directly the Faculty Erasmus Coordinator of the Faculty you will study in.


Course Offer for 2019/2020: available here

In case you do not find the list of courses for your Faculty, please contact the respective Faculty Erasmus Coordinator.

Courses are drawn from across the University and are divided by Faculties. As an Erasmus student you are obliged to choose at least two of your courses from the Host Faculty at Sofia University according to the field of study in the Inter-institutional Agreement (between your Home University and Sofia University). You are allowed to choose from the undergraduate and graduate courses from all Faculties on the basis of your interest regardless of your level of studies. If you are not sure which Faculty you will be enrolled in, please ask the coordinator at your Erasmus office.


Bulgarian Language Course

Sofia University offers free of charge Practical Bulgarian language courses to all interested Erasmus students during the semester – 4 hours per week, level A1 – B2, 4 ECTS.

If the student would like to attend this course, the course has to be included in the Learning agreement before the start of the mobility. Enrollment for this course will not be allowed during the mobility

All incoming Erasmus students are strongly recommended to participate in it in order to get familiar with the procedures and activities at the University.

30 September 2019 – Welcome Meeting – mandatory for all incoming Erasmus students
The full programme for the Orientation Days will be sent directly to the student’s email address on a later stage

Classes – 3 October 2019 – 17 January 2020

Exam Period – 20 January 2020 – 14 February 2020

Summer Semester

13 February – 14 February 2020 – Orientation Days 

All incoming Erasmus students are strongly recommended to participate in it in order to get familiar with the procedures and activities at the University.

Classes – 17 February 2020 – 5 June 2020

Exam period – 8 June 2020 – 3 July 2020

For any additional information that you cannot find here, you are welcome to contact your Erasmus coordinator at Sofia University.

NB: After receiving the full package of application documents (AF & LA & Language Certificate) we will send them to the respective Faculty for approval. That usually takes from 3 to 4 weeks. As soon as we receive confirmation of your application from the Faculty, we will send you Acceptance Letter. Don’t buy travel tickets before receiving your Acceptance Letter!


Don’t forget to:

• make sure that your Passport/Identity Card is valid for the full period of your stay in Bulgaria
• inform your Embassy in Bulgaria (if any) about your Erasmus mobility at Sofia University
• have a health insurance valid for the full period of your stay in Bulgaria
• bring with you 4 (four) passport-size photos
