Thank you for choosing Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski for your Erasmus mobility. Sofia University is glad to welcome you during the 2025/2026 academic year.

Please be aware that in order to apply for an Erasmus mobility at Sofia University, you have to be nominated by your Home University. That is why we recommend you to contact the responsible person at your Home University from the International Relations/Erasmus Office and to check details regarding your participation in the Erasmus+ Programme.

Please take time to read carefully the following information about the application procedure at Sofia University for incoming Erasmus students!

Application documents:

1. Application Form (AF) (to be filled online after completing all other steps)

The Application Form should be duly filled right after you send the documents in the following steps. 

2. Online Learning Agreement (OLA)

For the Erasmus+ 2021-2027, Learning Agreements must be managed online. You have to prepare your Online Learning Agreement via the platform https://www.learning-agreement.eu/. The document has to be signed by you and your Home University Coordinator (Responsible person) via the platform in order to be accepted and approved by Sofia University.

Information about SU coordinators in OLA:

Receiving Responsible Person – please indicate your Faculty coordinator at SU depending on your Host Faculty

Receiving Administrative Contact Person – please indicate your coordinator from the Incoming team at SU

  • the coordinators will be specified in an email sent by the Incoming team

In case your Home University does not use the platform for Online Learning Agreement, as an exception at this stage you could use a paper-based/pdf. Learning Agreement (download here). In the section Study Programme please fill in only Table A and Table B as the options blended mobility and short-term doctoral mobility are not applicable for incoming students at Sofia University. The document should be duly filled in electronically (not handwritten), signed by you and also signed and stamped (or digitally signed) by the responsible coordinator at your Home University. Please send it to the Incoming team at incoming.erasmus@admin.uni-sofia.bg at Sofia University. Please be aware that your University may have developed its own form of Learning Agreement. In this case, please send us only one LA/ OLA.

3. Language Requirements

We expect from the incoming students to have language skills equivalent to level B1 of CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). To prove your proficiency we ask you to select one of the options below:

  • to send a language certificate for English B1 or Bulgarian B1 (at least). The certificate should be issued in English (or Bulgarian) language;
  • to send this Language Proficiency Form filled in by a lecturer in English (or Bulgarian), stipulating your language proficiency in English (or Bulgarian), signed and stamped;
  • OLS test results are also accepted.

Language Certificate is not required only if:

  • your bachelor or master programme at your university is taught completely in English language;
  • you study English philology;
  • English is your native language;
  • you study Bulgarian philology at your university;
  • Bulgarian is your native language.

4. Transcript of Records

An official academic Transcript of Records (a list of courses taken both with grades and ECTS gained so far), issued by your Home University in English language/translated in English language.

5. Copy of a valid ID/passport – the document, which you provide, has to be the same as the one that you have indicated in Application form and the official document that you will travel with.

NB: The Application form and Learning Agreement should meet the following requirements (otherwise they will not be accepted):

  • electronically filled in (not handwritten);
  • all pages of each document saved in a single PDF file. Please do not lock the PDFs for edits, otherwise your documents could not be processed;
  • the name of the file has to consist of your name and the type of document, as follows: Ex.: LA_John Smith; …

The 1) Online learning agreement/paper-based Learning agreement (with the signatures of the student and the coordinator in the home university*), 2) Language Certificate and 3) Transcript of Records 4) Copy of a valid ID/passport have to be in PDF (each document in a separate PDF) and sent to the Incoming team at incoming.erasmus@admin.uni-sofia.bg at Sofia University in a single email (all 4 documents in one email). Please do NOT send documents one by one because your application will not be accepted and the documents could be lost. You should fill the Application form right after you send the documents. 
* the Learning Agreement will receive the final signature from Sofia University only after you send all of the above-mentioned documents.

Faculty Coordinators

Faculty Coordinators at Sofia University are responsible for the academic part of your Erasmus mobility. For any questions regarding courses and ECTS, syllabus, preparation of Learning Аgreement (LA), classes timetables, etc., please contact the respective Faculty Coordinator.

Course Offer for 2025/2026

Sofia University offers a wide range of bachelor and master courses for incoming Erasmus students, divided by faculties, available here.

For the preparation of the Online Learning Agreement (OLA) you are asked to choose at least 2 (two) of your courses from your Host Faculty at Sofia University according to the field of study agreed in the Inter-institutional Agreement (between your Home University and Sofia University). The same requirements are also applicable in case you make changes in the During the mobility part of your OLA. You are allowed to choose from the undergraduate and graduate courses from all faculties on the basis of your interest regardless of your level of study. If you are not sure which Faculty you will be enrolled in, please ask the coordinator at your Erasmus office.

Accommodation

Accommodation for Erasmus+ Students

For 2025/2026, Sofia University will offer a limited number of dormitory rooms, only to Erasmus+ students who require a visa (non-EU citizens).

Acceptance and enrollment at Sofia University

Once received, the full package of application documents (Application Form, Learning Agreement, Language Certificate and Transcript of Records, a Copy of a valid ID/passport) will be examined within 4 to 5 weeks after the application deadline. As soon as the application is approved by the faculty, we will send you an Acceptance Letter via email.

After receiving the Acceptance letter but not later than 15 September 2025 (for Autumn semester and full academic year) and 1 February 2026 (for Spring semester) you have to send to your Erasmus coordinator a copy of your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)/Health Insurance valid for the whole period of your stay in Bulgaria. This is a prerequisite to be enrolled at Sofia University.

Please don’t buy travel tickets and do not make any mobility-related expenses before receiving your Acceptance Letter!

Before arrival at Sofia don’t forget to:

  • send a copy of your EHIC/Health Insurance valid for the full period of your stay in Bulgaria;
  • make sure that your Passport/Identity Card is valid for the full period of your stay in Bulgaria;
  • inform your Embassy in Bulgaria (if any) about your Erasmus mobility at Sofia University;
  • prepare to bring 4 (four) passport-size photos with you.
